Selection Process and Criteria
The Indigenous children who take part in the education program offered by the Ngurra Jirrama Foundation usually complete their primary education at a remote primary school and then move to a school in Sydney for their secondary education.
There are several criteria which students need to meet in order to be considered for placement in the program.
Students are required to:
- be Aboriginal, and rich in their local language and culture
- have had exceptional attendance at their local primary school
- have a record of exemplary behaviour at their local primary school
- have a strong recommendation from their local primary school as well as school reports which indicate that they have the potential to do well at the secondary level
- be in Year 6 or 7, and have a strong desire to do well in secondary education
- display a positive attitude towards learning
- have a successful interview with staff of their future school and the Ngurra Jirrama Foundation
- be eligible for some form of assistance under the Commonwealth government‟s ABSTUDY program
- have strong family support for the program
